Zanzibar Youth Forum

The Zanzibar Youth Forum (ZYF) is a civil society youth organization independent of the government, political party, religious inclination to any association and individuals. It is solely registered and dedicated for the empowerment, advancement and capacity building of the young people.

Zanzibar Youth Forum was established in 2001 and registered under the Zanzibar Society Act No. 6 of 1995. The ZYF serves as a platform to advocate for the rights, social, economic, and empowerment of youths. In the light of this, the ZYF strives for true democracy, human rights, awareness on HIV/AIDS, fights against drug abuse, lobbying and advocacy, information sharing, organizing workshops, symposium, seminars, enhanced cooperation with national and international youth issues.

The ZYF works towards the following objectives:
To provide forums among the young people to address issues of common interests.
To support youth initiatives, individually or in groups, by training and providing consultative services.
To prepare and disseminate educational materials on civic education, politics, democracy, human rights, health and economic issues that primary effect youth.
To promote voluntary spirit among the young people.
To build the capacity of the youth in lobbying, advocacy and participation in decision-making.
To coordinate and facilitate networking initiatives among youth organization and youth agencies.
To broaden relations and strengthen coalitions and partnerships with local and international civil society organizations that spearhead social wellbeing and democratic atmospheres.
To raise and mobilize resources to meet administrative costs.
To establish cooperative groups for the youth development.
