The Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria (PPFN) is a national healthcare provider and a leading advocate of sexual reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in Nigeria. Founded in 1959 in response to pressing reproductive related problems such as unwanted pregnancies, child abandonment and unsafe abortion. PPFN has evolved to a broader, more comprehensive mission focused on adolescent RH, and the HIV/AIDS pandemic, and displacement of people due to natural disasters or conflicts. PPFN's vision is a society where all individuals freely exercise their right to and choice of quality health services by complementing the efforts of the government in making health services available to the most vulnerable by promoting universal access to SRH services that are stigma-free, effective, and affordable for everyone including people with disabilities (PWD). Given PPFN's mission and focus has been on promoting integrated health services that have direct impact on poor and vulnerable groups especially women, adolescent and children, as well as key populations and disabled persons. It provides a broad method mix of contraceptives, and offer full counseling about benefits, risks, and side effects to enable informed choice. Exhibiting different strengths and capabilities, PPFN's human resource strength with over 4,000 volunteers and 214 established staff positions (73% women) provide a good basis for effective program implementation. PPFN creates a competitive advantage by leveraging on its wide geographical spread with operations cutting across the 36 states of Nigeria including Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to deliver services through 45 static clinics, 36 mobile outreach teams, 200 associated clinics and 300 Community Based Distributors (CBD).
