Nahdlatul Wathan ( lit. 'Revival of the Nation') is an Islamic socio-religious organization based in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia. NW is a socio-religious Islamic organization, established in 1953 in Indonesia's early post-Independence era by the charismatic Muslim leader and local saint, Tuan Guru Kiai Hajji Zainuddin Abdul Madjid, popularly known as Maulana Syeikh (d.1997). ‘Nahdlatul Wathan' literally means ‘national awakening' or ‘national movement,' and is modelled discursively on Indonesia's largest Islamic organization, Nahdlatul Ulama, of which Maulana Syeikh was head in Lombok before he established NW. NW was founded in Pancor, Selong, East Lombok, and like other social, religious and missionary organizations, NW's aims are to empower the community through Islamic teachings and practices
