As an eco-socio entrepreneurship Amani was founded by Wardah Alkatiri in 1999 in Bekasi, West Java. Amani aimed at empowering rural communities and urban poor through the creation of what is believed to be socially and environmentally responsible micro businesses, including the promotion of sustainable agriculture. The business activities include (1) Organic farming of rice, soy bean, vegetables, fruits and poultry; (2) the Production of Tofu, Tempe, Kecap (soy sauce), Virgin Coconut Oil, Tea leaves, and Herbal drinks; (3) Trading of those commodities through supermarkets and direct customers around Jakarta-Tangerang-Bogor-Depok-Bekasi. The farm production fields were in West Java (Bogor, Cianjur, Sukabumi); Central Java (Pekalongan, Yogyakarta, Magelang), and Bali (Bedugul). For the trading establishment, PT Amani Mastra was founded in 31 July, 2001. Later on, as a new government regulation was issued for not-for-profit activities, in November 23, 2006, Yayasan Amani Dharma Semesta NPWP: 21.038.558.9-432.000 was established. The establishment was registered in Minister of Justice (PengesahanKehakiman) on September 1, 2008.
In all of its activities, Amani had never received any grants/donations. It has been either fully self-sufficient or received funding from Wardah Alkatiri’s husband, Mochamad Tafif Djoenaedi.
